(Rodway Chilling Backstage With Zeds Dead)
Pete Rodway, hailing from Maine, goes to school out in my home state of Colorado and attends University of Colorado at Denver. I called him up yesterday and got to ask him a few questions in a very informal interview on the phone. Not having a good way to record the chat everything is paraphrased and quotes are listed in, obviously, quotes. I asked Rodway how and where he got an interest in dubstep, and from there what made him want to drops some wobble treasures. He said it started in his senior year when friends of his, who were already into the dubstep/drum'n'bass scene, introduced him to it and challenged him to make some. At this point Rodway was mainly a guitar player but had dabbled a bit in mashups, so he wasn't all unfamiliar with electro but not too interested in dubstep. His mashups were done through Garage Band and music tech classes he took in high school. Jokingly he messed with this new style of music put out a few tracks and decided to keep it up, that was almost 4 years ago. I continued on to ask if there was a specific turning point, and in fact there was. It happened at his first ever electronic concert, Bassnecter, and the outcome was phenomenal, "Holy Fucking Shit, I need to step my game up." And he did. Now he plays shows in the Denver/Boulder area and opens for major names. Recently he opened for Zeds Dead at the Ogden Theatre in Denver on November 19th. When asked where he plans on going with his talent the first thing to come up was traveling. Going on tour and spreading the bass. As far as a major at CU-Denver he's undeclared but it sounds like music will be there forever.
For those geeks out there he rocks 2 JBL 5” Monitors, a keyboard, and logic pro for the beat making process, and runs traktor s4 when performing.
I asked him for his favorite songs to conclude this post so here you go:
